So, you’re planning an event for school students and don’t know where to start. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Begin by considering the age of your students, current trends and the overall goal of your event. Figuring this out can help you come up with perfect event concepts. If you’re still stuck, here are some ideas:
Pop vs. rock
This is an interactive event theme that’s sure to get the students excited. It’s great for confidence boosting and promoting teamwork. Students can come dressed as their favourite pop or rock star. You could even split the venue down the middle, one side decorated as pop and the other as rock. Create a stage (if there isn’t already one) and set up a karaoke machine. Make sure the karaoke machine is filled with plenty of pop and rock songs.
Students can spend the night singing, dancing and debating which is the better musical genre. Make sure you hire a photo booth because they’ll likely want to post their pop and rock outfit pics on social media. You can even create a ‘mocktail’ list inspired by different pop and rock stars. The more creative you get, the better.
Alter ego party
A great way to maintain the attention of your attendees is by keeping them guessing. What better way to do this than by telling everyone to come dressed as their alter ego? Think masks, crazy makeup, wigs and more. Being able to become someone else for a moment is something anyone can enjoy. It gives your students the ability to channel their inner creativity.
It’s also a chance for some of the shyer students to break out of their shells. They can express themselves and the feelings they hold inside in a fun way. Your students are sure to spend the weeks prior discussing and planning their costumes. During the event, they can discuss who or what their alter ego is. It’ll show everyone in a different light and promote some great conversations.
Fandom frenzy
School kids are always obsessing over something. Whether it’s an anime series or a fantasy book, everyone has their favourite! So, create a fandom event, where they can come dressed as their favourite pop-culture phenomenon. You can hold a costume contest, with prizes for the best dressed. Set up some different stations with games related to popular culture. You might have to do some research beforehand to figure out what all the kids are into, but this is one of the event concepts that’s bound to delight!
Festival
With festivals being cancelled left right and centre because of the pandemic, why not create your own? I’m sure it will be received well by all the teens who missed their favourite festival. Perhaps find an indoor/outdoor venue so you can set up a festival ride outside. Create mini food trucks, a fairy floss stand, a face painting booth and maybe even a ‘pretend’ merchandise booth. Have lots of popular music blasting and a great dancing tent. You could even organise a silent disco – a great option if you’re trying to keep the volume down.
Scavenger hunt
One of the more interactive event concepts is a scavenger hunt. You can split students up into teams and give them lists of what they need to find. Ask them to take a photo of/with/in each item as proof. Make the items fun and creative, for example:
- Something you can use as a hat
- The best hiding spot
- Something green
- Something that is not what it seems
It’s sure to get everyone laughing and working together. You can have prizes for different categories like the most inventive or the funniest. Let the students vote on the winners and give them fun prizes. Provide some delicious food and refreshing drinks for everyone to enjoy after their hunt!
