WEDDINGS INDUSTRY ‘GPS BROKEN’ NAVIGATING NSW HEALTH ROADMAP

Navarra Venues Senior Managing Director, Giovannino Navarra, said over 97% of couples will not be able to proceed with their wedding receptions unless the State Government’s 50-guest limit was immediately scrapped and replaced with the same 1 x person per 4sqm rule as other hospitality businesses.

“Whilst our Montage golden gate to Sydney ballroom accommodates 1,650 guest comfortably using 1.8 metre round tables, Navarra Venues do boast smaller petite function suites catering for 50, 80, or 100 guests. These are rarely booked other than for engagements, Baptisms, wedding anniversaries and smaller corporate functions. We ordinarily cater for larger family-orientated wedding functions,” Mr Navarra said.

“Weddings require meticulous forward planning and logistics to ensure we’re providing our brides and grooms with a celebration of a lifetime. But unfortunately, couples who have booked their receptions for higher numbers are in limbo, having to decide if they can drastically cut their guest numbers, or put their wedding on hold. It’s a heartbreaking situation that brides and grooms all over Sydney are suffering.

“The crippling restrictions mean our wedding venues can’t operate at our usual, best practice operational capacity and that the vast majority of reception staff will have no work to return to. Restricting numbers at weddings is also hurting associated businesses like hire car operators, florists, gown designers and hair and make-up artists. Reduced revenue for us, means reduced revenue for NSW that collects approximate $7 billion in revenue from the wedding industry. It also means less state taxes paid, which affects funding of essential community infrastructure. There’s a lot of apprehension and anxiety being felt right across the Sydney wedding industry right now.”
